you want your car to have overdrive on while on freeway for better gas milage and so you run low rpms
Shud the overdrive button in the car be on OFF when driving on a motorway/freeway/highway?
overdrive button should be on all the time. Unless you are towing a vehicle. Some times you can turn it off if your crusing around in the city, it will help you get more gas mileage. But you should alwasy have it ON, when on the motorway, freeway and highway. It will help you get better gas mileage on the highway, freeway, and motorway when its ON.

Always leave it on, unless the transmission is "searching" between 3rd %26amp; OD [usually happens on a long uphill].
Reply:Overdrive is 4th gear ... Always leave it on when on the freeway... Its called over drive because the gear ratio is higher than 1:1
Reply:Not unless your towing.
Reply:It depends on the car My auto drives with overdrive off until around 40mph then it sounds horrible from the engine so i whack it on with overdrive on all the time all i do is lose torque so have to give the car more power then iam hitting the turbo all the time and then going like a bat out of hell...
So for my car i have the overdrive on at speeds above 40mph, i would go by the car the way it feels and the revs's etc.
Reply:No, if you leave it on it will give you better gas mileage. Overdrive is sort of like a "extra" gear that has a better than 1:1 Ratio which means lower rpm but the same speed. But the 1:1 ratio will make rpm increase to tow so turn it off when towing.
