For a high performance lexus do you really need to spend the money on premium gas?

Gas prices are crazy. What harm does it do to use regular gas?

yes i would highly suggest that you get premium, if not super, gas. my friend just did the same thing with an Audi and completey f-ed up his gas lines and engine and has to pay alot of money to fix it.

in the long run it will cost more to skimp out on regular and have to pay bank to fix your car, then if you just spring a couple extra bucks for premium or super. so do the smart thing and get the better gas i would HIGHLY SUGGEST IT IF YOU LIKE YOUR CAR.

The car has a high compression engine, therefore it needs the premium fuel to burn completely. If you put regular unleaded, it may knock (clatter) and sound like a diesel. Performance will suffer, and subsequently engine damage. Face the music, you got a nice car, treat it well. I have an Audi, and it takes premium, but I suck it in and deal with it.
Reply:I cannot tell the difference in performance in my GS450h when I use premium or regular. I cannot tell in the LS430 or the GX470. So I use regular. Modern technology takes care of the knock. You will have to judge whether there is a performance degradation; I can't.
Reply:Like another poster has said, modern technology has made it possible to put regular gas in cars that require premium, although I don't know how well it works. The thing is, the difference in cost between regular and premium isn't worth the risk. In a 20 gallon tank, you save less than $5? So that should equate to less than $10 a week I hope... or else you're driving way too much. Since gas prices are already so high, shouldn't it make more sense to say that the slight difference in price is just that, slight? Proportionally, that difference is less than the total amount you pay, so it should matter less that premium is a bit more expensive. That's my theory =) I keep telling that to myself every time I drop $80 on a tank, and yes, I have a 20.6 gallon tank. (sc400)
