SMG transmission?

I've been driving manual cars ever since I got my license. I'm now considering getting an e46 M3, either in a 6 speed manual or SMG,(most likely an 01).


Could someone explain the disadvantages of having an SMG transmission? I've heard that they are not good when driving slowly, and that they are hard to park...


Also, how do you start moving, (do you have to hold the paddle in while giving it gas?), or start off going up a hill, (with no clutch, can you even stall it out?)

I've read a lot about the early BMW SMG and it's not good.


They have fixed the problem only recently,... '08 model year.


If you can get the 6 speed manual, do it. Especially if it's an older model.
