What are the best spark plugs to use on a '96 BMW 328i?

i changed my old ones out about a week ago. The plugs that were recommended by the part store had only one electrode. when i took my old plugs out it had four. now my car seems sluggish. are these plugs required? did the part store give me the wrong plugs?
What are the best spark plugs to use on a '96 BMW 328i?
FACTORY, FACTORY FACTORY

im not sure which type it is, but call bmw dealer and ask for the parts section, then ask which plugs are the factory plugs for your car. this can be very imortant these days. you may not have to buy them from the dealer, another parts store may sell them, but the dealer will tell you what brand and type they are. platnum or not, double plat, quad plat, etc
What are the best spark plugs to use on a '96 BMW 328i?
i think they originally came with Bosch platinum in them, you can go back with the same type that you took out, but it didn't come with those in it i don't think, those that you took out are a very expensive plug and do fire real good, they probably gave you what the book called for on the car,you can call and check with them but usually they give you what the factory recommends to use in it,good luck with it.
Reply:Bosch!
Reply:Original spark plugs are either supplied by NGK or Bosch. Both brands are in general very good, just make sure to get spark plugs with the appropriate spark gap.

The difference between the spark plugs with 1 prong and 4 prongs above the electrode is that the 4 prong variety will usually last longer. Ever time the spark plug is fired, a very small amount of the prong is burned away. With 4 prongs, the spark will have 3 alternative prongs if one gets burned away.

Good plugs to choose for a BMW are any of the Bosch Platinum series or NGK Laser Platinum or Laser Iridium.

What is a good cold air intake for a 2.4L alero??

K%26amp;N makes filter for almost every car make out there. They may be expensive, but they should be direct fit.

2005 ford f-350 ac fan not blowing hard enough?

When was the last time you had the a/c charged? Do you live in a warm climate? Just had to have my 2005 a/c charged. I live in the desert and it needed it. Thing is so cold I run regular a/c not max a/c and it is already over 100 here.
2005 ford f-350 ac fan not blowing hard enough?
I Think it's the cooling coil that has the problem or perhaps the coil itself is leaking where the refrigerant gasses came out.I think you ned to to some charging on the refrigerants and ask the repairman to look for a leakage.I believe there's nothing wrong with the blower.
2005 ford f-350 ac fan not blowing hard enough?
Its a ford...sell it for a real truck
Reply:If I understand you right your saying that the air comming out of the ducts is not strong enough?

If so look under your dash below the glove box %26amp; see if maybe you haven't sucked up a plastic bag or papers into the ac system reciculation duct.

Avalon at Foxchase?

What, exactly, is the question? Can you rephrase it in a complete English sentence? If not, then perhaps in a foreign language.

I have a 2001 cadillac deville and within a months time three of the window have stopped working .?

They will all roll down, just not up. I was thinking maybe it is the regulator? is this costly ? not very car savvy please some one help
I have a 2001 cadillac deville and within a months time three of the window have stopped working .?
Its has to be either the regulator or the window motor
I have a 2001 cadillac deville and within a months time three of the window have stopped working .?
Does the motor run with out the window moving? If that's the case you have a problem with the regulator. It may be a simple clip with a roller on it. I haven't worked on this model lately but I think that's the way it's set up. It is quite complicated to remove the regulator to replace the clip but the part is only about $10.00.

If you don't here the motor run when you try to roll the windows up I would suspect the master switch in the drivers door, In the off position it should send a ground to both wires for all four windows. when you push either switch the ground is switched to power and completes a circuit to move the window. If only 1 wire has a ground at each motor when the switches are off you have a bad switch. This will cause the window to work only one way.

If the window tries to go up but you need to help pull it up the motor is either week or the window is binding. Try lubing the track the window goes in with a dry lubricant like a Teflon based lubricant you should be able to find something like that at a good auto parts store. If that doesn't fix it you will need to try adjusting the tracks and you may need to replace the motors.
Reply:you might want to try unhooking the vehicle battery for a few minutes. 2001 devilles use individual door control modules, the switches are only an input to the door modules which run the motors. i have seen these symptoms be created by a weak battery that causes a software lock-up in the module. unhooking the vehicle battery usually clears the issue. this is assuming that you prove it is not a regulator issue. these are also known to fail.

Servicing a BMW?

How much would I be looking at to get regular maintenance on a 2000 BMW 328, such as...

oil changes,

air filters,

all fluids,

spark plugs,

hoses.

Thanks!
Servicing a BMW?
I would actually find a local guy that works with european cars.

I went to the BMW dealer for the first time and the guy there gave me the best advice...As soon as your maintenance is up...get rid of the car and buy a new one.

BMW labor charges are outrageous.
Servicing a BMW?
Most local mechanics can doe this sort of maintenance without taking to BMW dealer. The prices are different, so it is hard to say. call around to local mechanics and dealerships and find the average cost for said work. This will give you an idea of what price range you are looking at.
Reply:I just take mine to the dealer which I got it from. They pretty much check all the fluids and change what needs to be changed and the usual oil changes are about $40.00 as well as the air filters, the rest you cant really tell, but not a lot of people service bmw's in Puerto Rico so it might be different for you.
Reply:if you list yr servicing as you have mentioned above. You will pay a high price.

Now you find a local good mechanic and ask for a quote.

1)to change lub oil filter and lub oil.

2)to top up fluids if low level

3)ask them to check the existing plugs,if requires renewal.

4)Tell them to check the hoses,if gone bad, then change.otherwise not to change.

5)if auto check the ATF and top up.

When u say top up,a good mechanic will recommend if renewal needed.

Standy about USD200/- for the service.

when part of the universe you are from.
Reply:Find a good independent BMW specialist. Dealer is too pricey and BMWs need someone familiar with the car.

Oil Service is about $90 at the dealer $50 at a good independent BMW mechanic. You do that once a year or about every 15,000 miles.

Brake fluid flush is every two years. $200

Transmission and diff fluids are "lifetime"

Air filter you can do yourself.

Spark plugs are only every 100,000 miles. O2 sensor has to be changed at the same time. I've never paid to have that done, so I don't know the price.

By the time the hoses go, you need to replace the radiator, water pump and thermostat as well. $600 from a good independent. Every 7-8 years. For a 2000 it will either have just had it done or it will need it very soon.

the scion tc is the sickest car ever . im getting one too and i like the dark gray because it matches the inside seats . hope this helps . %26lt;3
I'm thinking of a new car....do you think the Scion TC is a good choice for me????
Its a good car for a teen, if that is what you are. They are not very spacious, only have two doors, and the gas mileage isn't that great. But for a first car, or first new car for a teen they fit the bill.

Black is a good color they come in. The lighter colors don't look so good on them.
Reply:if you like it than go for it. any color you want.
Reply:this "wild" guy 2 answers above me is clueless.. he has obviously no clue what he is talking about... not good on gas? i have a 05 silver streak tc which gets a good 28mpg city...and lighter colors dont look good??? this guy is out of his mind....my silver tc is agreeably the sickest tc in westchester county, ny....silver tc with the factory body kit and the black panorama roof is a sick combo....customization possibilities are endless- if you can dream an accessory you can have it on the tc...get the car... get it in silver... you wont be disappointed-trust me...
Reply:I don't know you so my answer may not be accurate based on your personality.

I agree with jaques. Scion tC is rated around 28-30 mpg. There are not many cars with that fuel efficiency unless you go with compact sedan like Corolla, Civic, etc.

Budget-wise it's one of the less expensive sport sedans out there. It is also 100% made in Japan so they are built with quality in mind. Additionally, tC are designed to be upgradeable so you can add more stuff to it in the future when your budget allows it.

Scion tC was introduced in 2005 and targeted at 20-something people, college students, college grads, people new into the workforce but have tight budget, etc. However, I've seen a variety of people driving around in a tC so the demographics doesn't mean anything, you should get what feels right for you.

I own an 06 Black Sand Pearl tC and it's an awesome color, especially the way it shines in the sun. White one are cool also. It's a subtlely aggressive car, definitely not ricey like some sports cars. It's also significantly more roomy than my previous Corolla, so I don't understand why people complain about interior room - it's a coupe/hatchback, if you want more room then get a sedan.

Anyways, if you like subtlety, concerned about budget (both purchase and gas), want a daily driver that can act (not just look) like a sports car, and expect to tweak the car to your personality, then yeah go for it!

Does anyone have a diagram or details on how to install a thermostat for you car?

i have a 2003 honda civic and i really don't want to take it to the shop for something so minor any digrams or instructions would be great!
Does anyone have a diagram or details on how to install a thermostat for you car?
follow your lower rad hose to the engine and you will find it behinde the connector piece there when you take it off
Does anyone have a diagram or details on how to install a thermostat for you car?
same as the first answer, follow the radiator hose until it hits the head, after that take phillips screwdiver undo the clamp and push it to the side, there u will see the thermostat. take it out and put the new one in. now to test it the old and new one. get a pot and boil water, once it reaches a hot temp drop that thermostat in the water, if it expands its good , if not then its broke.

B20b swap need help!?

i"m trying to swap a b20b engine into my 93 honda del sol..now.. i know how to do this but the problem is that I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA...!! and i'm trying to see if i can legalized in the State.. or is it going to be impossible?? what do i need to do??
B20b swap need help!?
not possible, there are a few rules for motor swaps if you wish to make it legal

1. Swap must be from a same year OR a newer car.

2. Motor can NOT be from a truck/SUV and go in a car (ie b20 from a CRV into a del sol, not allowed)

3. All smog components must be in place and working

4. no CEL's

5. USDM ECU

6. Car must be able to obviously pass regular smog test as well.

So as you can see by the second one, since the crv is considered a SUV, you cannot swap a b20 into it to make it legal

BUT

you can swap in any b16 or b18, or even a k20/k24 and make it legal

Edit:

Here is some info about bar requirements in California

Vehicle family Rule:

Engine must come from a vehicle from the same family, ie. light duty to light duty, medium and heavy duty to same. What surprised me was the family range. Everything from a mini to a 1 ton truck is considered light duty, and engines can be interchanged. Everything greater than 1 ton pickup is considered med/heavy duty and thus cannot be used as a donor into a car.

Catalytic Converters:

CATs are not required to be installed on vehicles that did not come with them installed from the factory.

Kicker: OBDII donor vehicles have post CAT O2 sensors. These cannot be disabled in any way. Without the CATs, the PCM will throw a code, thus creating an issue with the conversion. So, although the CATs themselves are not required, if the Donor vehicle is OBDII, then by proxy, they are required.

Misc. Emissions controls:

EVERY piece of emissions package is required from the donor vehicle. That would include fuel tank (to include fuel pressure sensor), evaporative canister and all lines from and to the tank.

Referee inspection:

Pre-75 vehicles (vehicles not requiring smog tests) do not have to be referee certified. However, CHP (or any law enforcement officer, I suppose) can write you an emissions citation, which would need a visit to the referee to sign off to cancel the citation (fixit ticket). Apparently, the State is actively looking at modified vehicles for emissions violations (roadside checkpoints as mentioned previously)

http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php...

As you can see, a Del Sol is not a 'medium duty' whereas a CRV is one so number 2 would be correct.

For the ecu, you can get away with using a JDM one as long as the person you bar it with doesn't notice. But it is a 'requirement'.
B20b swap need help!?
#2 and #5 are false, doesnt matter where the motor came from and you do not need a us ecu.

hook up all the smog equipment and take it to the smog ref and see whats missing.
Reply:first persons right but as i remember engine must be from same year range as obd1 to obd1 and obd2 to obd2

Replacing alternator and ac?

How much would it cost to replace these in a 2000 BMW 328? Thanks!

No matter what you do to a bmw it is expensive, but the alternator is a fairly easy replacement. The most time and money will be spent on the AC.

Im thinking about getting headers?

for my dodge truck.. and im not sure what kind/brand to get?? like shorty or longtube??
Im thinking about getting headers?
Long tubes give better low end torque... I havent messed around with this HotRod stiff in years but do remember Hooker Headers were real nice... Avoid Hedman headers (assuming they are still around)--- Those rusted out in 18 months and had to be replaced....
Im thinking about getting headers?
shorty's are good if your going to do a custom exhaust on it otherwise long tube give better performance ,or they supposed to i had a set of each and couldn't tell that much difference in either set, with both sets ran through true duals on a ram truck it was hard to tell the difference in them, mine was made be headman ,they make a real good header that last really good, but do your self a favor and spring for the stainless steel one or the ceramic coated ones, they last real good and don't rust, the cost a lot more but are worth it,you wont be replacing them ever 3-4 years, long tube ones are easier to run exhaust on though, good luck with it.
Reply:TTi makes the best header going today for a Dodge. You didn't say what engine your running or what year. So I'll give you this

for both engines. There is Dyno proof that the Magnum LA 5.2 and 5.9 likes long tube headers with 7/8th inch primaries. 10 hp over the short header. But the 5.7 Hime likes the short header, on it the short header makes 12 more hp. Average gain was 20hp on both engines. But with a jet chip and headers you can get about 60hp across the board.

What do you know about a 2001 prizm?

saw it for sale. will be going to college that's a 2 hour drive and figure this is a decent car for that. 93,000 miles, a/c doesn't work, automatic and power stuff, and asking $4,500 (slightly over book value).

i see all the prizm's are recommended to buy in the consumer report. any advice or experience with one?
What do you know about a 2001 prizm?
If your knees are sore and you have really long legs, I wouldn't buy it, but if you don't care, and just are buying it for MPG's, do it!
What do you know about a 2001 prizm?

Reply:The prizm is one of Chevy's true success stories. The prizm is well built and runs great. The 2001 with its 1.8 liter 125 HP engine last a long time and holds a good crash rating. This prizm has a 13.2 gallon fuel tank and is rated over 30 MPG on the highway. It would be hard to find a more reliable car.My service manager drives a prizm to work everyday that has over 240.000 mlies so far.He said its the best car he has ever owned.Best of luck.

Why are newer autos geting worse milage every year?

Do the auto manufactuers think we are all stupid? Every year when new auto models come out they have worse milage than the same model that was released several years earlier, yet the auto mfgs. tout the mpg rating like it's supperior or something, but it's worse! Always!! The best example is the new vibe, what happened with the auto trans vibes' 34 to 36 mpg and the standard trans vibes' mpg at 40 mpg?
Why are newer autos geting worse milage every year?
one point to keep in mind is that the EPA recently (for 2008 model year) revised the method of calculating City/Hwy Fuel Economy estimates. See link from Car and Driver website below.

Beyond that, the trend is that vehicles get larger and more powerful each year. These facts have conspired to counteract all advances in technology that otherwise would have provided better fuel economy.
Why are newer autos geting worse milage every year?
Because the newer model get bigger and faster every year!

Who wants a "smaller" Civic? nobody apparently, so they made the Fit.

Want 35mpg? get an `87 Civic!

What happened to the 3 cylinder Geo metro, Huh? 42mpg!

Remember the Suzuki Samurai? it evolved into the tracker, and the Grand Vitara with a V-6 VROOOOMM!!!!

Nope, youve got the "marketing" guys to thank at the auto companies, they dont listen to "us" .
Reply:evidently they do think were all asleep or something ,because i own a 87 Nissan sentra that gets a good 38 miles to the gallon in the city and 44 on the highway and i wonder why they cant make one that does this now,i was surprised to see some of the newer cars mileage ratings, they are well below what they should be at,with all our technology we should have cars that would get well above 60-70 miles to the gallon but yet we don't,there has to be a reason for this,i would like to know why we are going backwards instead of forwards,i though better technology meant we have the ability to do better not worse,i had a Toyota corolla about 20 years ago that had the 2tc engine in it and it got well over 35 miles to the gallon using the air conditioner all the time,so what happened,we went backwards again,im hoping that we will see a car get good mileage without it being powered half off electricity ,we have the technology to do this with, but we don't apply it for some reason,if i owned stock on an oil company i wouldn't want cars to get better mileage id want those 10- 15 mile per gallon vehicles on the road,so this should ring a bell to some people,it makes you wonder though,i went through this in the 70,s and now its started all over again, this time though its hurting more people than it did then, hopefully we will see a drop in it,and maybe enough to make a difference ,good luck, you asked a good question .
Reply:In 2007, the way the EPA read gas mileage changed.

The EPA ratings were not accurate enough so gas mileage is read in a different way with different tests.

And now they MPG ratings are more accurate.

The Older Civic and Corolla did not get 40mpg. They really got 5mpg lower than that.

Most car companies already changed their MPG ratings, but some car companies did not change their commercials and websites yet.
Reply:Added weight has a lot to do with it as well. Every year theres more and more safety features being added to cars, adding to their overall weight.

Acquired a leased Subaru Impreza, couple worthwhile questions?

Ok so im sorry if this is long winded but I am a new owner of a 2006 Subaru Impreza (hatchback).

Here are where the problems come in, he did not maintain the car at all, there are dents in more door panels, and scratches on the front/rear bumper. He made a comment that sounded like "Subaru makes all the panels one piece so the entire door needs replacing" %26lt;- Is that true???

The engine rattles A LOT!!! He did not do any oil changes and i think he shifted with the 1,2,3,D so if i need a new trans will i get one (since there is obvious neglect to the car on his part)?

I love to mod cars, its what i want to do later in life as a career, this is a LEASE so i dont know what i can or cannot touch, please tell me if something on this list cannot be done due to a lease/ warantee:

Window Tints (why bother if they replace door?)

New Deck / speakers/ Subwoofers

Neon Underglow

K%26amp;N Intake

Exhaust (cut stock muffler and replace)

Rims

B4 i turn it in will return all to stock, have for 2 more yrs

Very common problem with people neglecting our beautiful cars.

I would say go to the dealer FIRST , and get your tranny mess fixed, and ask them for a full detail.

As far as mods go, there isnt much you can do it a impreza, but your defintely on the right track. Good Luck
Acquired a leased Subaru Impreza, couple worthwhile questions?
The engine is rattling because it's a Subaru Boxer horizontally opposed engine. Watch it rock, learn to love it. It's normal.

Change Dodge Grand Caravan Tailgate Key lock?

My tailgate doesn't unlock or open using the key. I had to cut a hole in the inside panel so I could open it, I then removed the inside panel. How hard is to change the keylock? Or should I go the auto wreckers and just get another tailgate for it? Any advise would be appreciated. I have changed them on the '84 and '89.
Change Dodge Grand Caravan Tailgate Key lock?
there's just a slide on them that holds them in,you can remove them without wiping out the door though,i got stuck doing this for a customer a while back he broke his key off in his,i went to a salvage yard and for ten bucks they gave me the lock and key assembly,it took about an hour total to repair it,yours may just be jammed up or something,id check before i got another one,you can re-key it to fit the original key by changing the tumblers in it,but its a tedious job,but it can be done, depending on the year that you have some of those can be a little hard to get too though,i wouldn't change the whole door unless i had to,good luck on it.
Change Dodge Grand Caravan Tailgate Key lock?
I'd call around to big do it yourself auto wreckers and for sure I'd change the whole tailgate assembly and switch the two lock cylinders around.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way bec you've especially put a whole it your old tailgate I highly recommend you change it and it's not hard to do either.

Chevy Cobalt or Aveo?

Chevy Cobalt or Aveo?
AVEO of course
Chevy Cobalt or Aveo?
You will get a better car with the cobalt.More power, room, safety, comfort and a much better ride.Aveo little more gas mileage, very little room, less safety and problems with the engines and electrical system. The aveo over all makes a poor choice for a Chevy.Best of luck.

i would say aveo just because its small

im planning on getting one
Reply:Neither. The cobalts are pieces of crap, and the Aveo, is just a golf cart with windows and doors. Try Honda or Toyota.

The reason for three lines is this; One is for fuel from the tank to the inlet on the pump, and the second is (outlet) for fuel to go to the carburetor, and the third is a return line to the tank. You can plug off the return line, and it will work, but it may push fuel past the float in the carburetor. The stock pump pushes more fuel than it needs, so when it reaches X amount of pressure on the line, the rest of excess fuel is sent back to the tank. This type of system works best, as it maintains a constant level of pressure no matter what the demand is at the carburetor. You should have no more than 5-7 psi on the the fuel line to the carb, and if there is more, then you have two options. You can return the excess back to the tank, or install a pressure regulator between the pump, and the carburetor. Maybe you can sell the Holly pump, and buy one from the dealer for it. You will be glad you did, as this (Holly) pump can cause all kinds of flooding issues with the carburetor if it pumps more than the recommended pressure. Too much pressure will push fuel right past the needle valve in the carburetor, and over fill the fuel bowl. Then it will begin to spill over into the engine, and then out the vent of the bowl an onto the engine. This is a fire waiting to happen, so keep an eye on it if you decide to install the Holly pump anyway.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

My 2003 Ford Taurus remote keyless entry by SecuriLock is not working.?

I changed the battery in the remote but it still does not work. I have a handicap child that I carry and the remote comes in very handy! Is there a fuse for the remote? Is there a valet switch in this car? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Looking at toyota yaris?

live in east texas, have 17 month old, wanting a good safe car that gets good on gas and doesnt cost that much, like under 15000, what should i pay...wanting the 4 door
Looking at toyota yaris?
wait youre looking at one on purpose or are you gawking at how hideous they are? I'd say our econemy could really use your help especially if youre in the new car market, buy american
Looking at toyota yaris?
go for a yaris, toyota is the number one car maker for a reason. no american made car can compair to it. good luck.
Reply:Buy a corolla or Matrix great cars and your "Buying american"too because they are made in Freemont California .You will average 33 MPG.
Reply:Anyone in the market for a Yaris should also look at a Honda Fit.

Small sedans are impractical, especially with all the things that travel with a child. Hatches are far more configurable, and can easily swallow large toys, strollers, etc.

Regarding "Buy American"... you can buy American when America produces a small car worth owning. Aveo = All Aboard the Failboat.
Reply:I have a yaris. Its 4 doors, 2003 colour collection... i dont know if they look the same in the USA but mines in Scotland is cute :) I find the fuel consumption is quite good. I wouldnt recommend 'buying american'. They're not the best cars to drive or own. You simply cant compare and American car to a Japanese car. If your looking for a car that will run forever then a Japanese car is the way to go.

Hope this helped.
Reply:A four door auto would run you abour $13k. They actually look like mini Camrys!

Great on gas, could do without the gauges in the middle though. They are spacious cars.

The Fits are nice cars, but Honda needs to remember this is America though, not Britain or Japan. Hatchbacks are not needed or really wanted here, except for the tuner crowd in which the Mazda3 owns. If Honda would make a sedan Fit they could have a winner, or come up with something a little more thoughtful, like Toyota did with the xB. Otherwise Honda will stay in the shadow of Toyota in sales, production, quality, resale, reliability, and overall value.
Reply:assuming you do some sort of normal financing (3 years or so, not 6 otherwise the interest is going to knock it up a few thousand dollars) and don't do much add ons, you can probably find a new yaris sedan for around $15000. i love my yaris hatchback, but the sedan really does look like any other car but not as ugly as as Hyundai or something. good luck!
Reply:The Toyota Yaris is an excellent choice. It has Consumer Reports' highest predicted reliability rating and the manual version is on the ACEEE's greenest dozen, with the automatic transmission not far behind. Also, the Toyota Echo, its less refined predecessor, has CR's highest Reliability Verdicts for all 6 of its model years and is on AutoOnInfo.net's very selective best lists for model years 2000 through 2004. Consumer Reports gives its manufacturer suggested retail price range (without options and without destination charges) from $11,350 to $13,725, depending on transmission and body style.

The Yaris comes as a sedan or a two-door hatchback. This is likely its greatest shortcoming. The Honda Fit comes as a 4-door hatchback and also carries CR's highest predicted reliability, and its manual transmission is also in ACEEE's greenest dozen. The extra room that a 4-door hatchback offers will likely be very much appreciated over the years; its cargo carrying capacity should surprise anyone who hasn't previously owned a 4-door hatchback. However, the price of the Fit is higher, CR's price range is $13,950 to $15,270. The Fit has been AutoOnInfo.net's top pick for the past 2 years. For photographs of the Yaris, go to pressroom.toyota.com or AutoOnInfo.net's reviews, and for photographs of the Fit, go to Hondanews.com or AutoOnInfo.net's reviews.

Total Vehicles?

I have a 1999 VW Passat. It was totaled the other day. How do I find out what my car is worth? Kelly Book states that a car in excellent condition is worth approx. $8,000. I do not owe any money on the car, it is paid off.
Total Vehicles?
You answered your own question didnt you?

If KBB says its worth $8,000 thats about it. Thats what insurace companies rely on to value vehicles.
Total Vehicles?
go to cars.com in you find a car similar to your and price
Reply:insurance companies will also look for the going rates of that car in your area by checking autotrader or similar.
Reply:ask the guy at the junk yard :o
Reply:the body shop would have done an estimate on the repairs for this vehicle, that number is what an insurance company will look at to determine if it is totaled, depending on your insurance company, it is usually 85% of the msrp according to kbb, if you can get the cost to repair from the body shop, it will give you an idea of what it will take to return it to good condition, typically you will be able to get kbb fair value minus 75% of that estimate, just a ball park figure. it also is affected by where the damage is and what is salvageable, what part of the country are you in, i may be interested in working out a deal with you, please email me

Max HP on a Civic LX?

I got a 04 Civic LX Coupe and i want to know how much HP i can get out of it without adding a turbocharger, or doing a swap?
Max HP on a Civic LX?
well not to much say intake, header, exhaust, maybe 15-20 hps. also depends on how much $ u want to spend.. say new upgrade ecu, new high compression piston, port polish head, new valuve springs and retainers, plus the first 3 things say close to 100 hp then at that time you will be spending close to $5000 plus labor work if you dont know how to do it.. so not to much hps without to much work done

dude, if your not in it to win it then dont bother upgrading nothing!!! honestly brah, you guys watched them damn fast and furious movies and , now everyone thinks its a trend. . dont waste ur time with that baby *** motor, cause all a REAL importer is going to do is Sh*t on your car with an ol sckool honda . then ur gonna be sad, just put rims on it and some bang in the trunk and call it a day. Bad transmission & ebrake?

I just got a '98 Corolla, and the e-brake does not work at all. I just tried to park on a hill, and I left it in 1st gear, but the car still rolled back! Does that mean there is a problem with my transmission, too?
Bad transmission %26amp; ebrake?
Depends on how steep the hill is.
Bad transmission %26amp; ebrake?
no the problem is you did not tun your wheel into the curb e-brake needs adjusted to cable replacement..trannys can only hold so much pressure
Reply:Yep and in addition too your gear box being in little kibbles and bits your clutch is also apparently shot, good ol' japaneese cars!
Reply:Rear DRUM breaks tend to not self adjust correctly. They are suppose to but often the don't.

You can take it to the brake shop and have it adjusted. But I warn you that if it didn't adjust till now, they will wear again and have same problem down the line.

===

Now for the tranny - when you said it rolled, do you mean it continues to roll, or do you mean it rolls for about 3 to 6 inches and stop? It it continues to roll then your clutch is worn. If it only rolls few inches and stop - don't worry about it.

Good Luck...

P.S. The way to adjust drum breaks are to drive backwards, and then hit the break hard. It sounds strange but that how they adjust.
Reply:trans is fine, adjust the rear brakes.

second, there is mold throughout the car because it was sitting for a very long time. how do i get rid of the mold?

third, water comes into the car through the taillight fixtures. how do i fix that?

Information for fixing up a 91 Civic Si?
for the sunroof go to honda for the piece and mold? depends carpet just replace it and if its in your vent take your dash off and clean your air vents and blower unit.. taillight check your taillight for cracks and replace if needed
Information for fixing up a 91 Civic Si?
I have a 1990 honda crx si and my sunroof doesn't leak. Replace the rubber seal around the sunroof when you open it, just pull the rubber off and buy a new one at the dealer. For the water coming into the headlights, they need to be replaced with new ones.
Reply:don't waste your time and money just take it to the junk yard.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalling problems?

This usually happens after Jeep has sat for hours. It will miss and shut off at low speeds and do the same at 50 mph but will refire and backfire. I changed the fuel pump module, no help, then I changed plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor switch, it then burnt the #1 and #2 pistons. Had motor rebuilt. They say they checked computer and I had exhaust pressure checked and changed muffler because backfires destroyed it and blew half the fins out of catalytic converter. Still doing it most days. This same Jeep used to stall out with 1/4 tank of fuel when taking left turns but since has quit that one. This Jeep has 154k miles on it now. I bought it with 50k and it has been dependable until now.
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalling problems?
Thats strange, I have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee too with about the same number of miles and I've never had any problems with it.
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalling problems?
If the car is on duel fuel Petrol%26amp;Lpg gas the teminals on the switch that changes it from petrol to gas for example are faulty

then it will be trying to run on both fuels at the same time

If it is fuel injected the throttle body might just need a clean
Reply:You need to replace the ignition coil and the Dist, pickup. The coil is going bad and it's fried the pickup. The reason it backfires on restart is fuel that got injected after you lost fire.

It sits in the head pipe and ignites from the fire coming from the head into the head pipes.

Volvo radio problem.... help me before i kill myself?
instead of killing your self get a new radio
Volvo radio problem.... help me before i kill myself?
the tuner is going bad in the radio is probably whats happening to it the one in my car just did the same thing ,and i had to replace the radio,it was either replace it or have it repaired, and that was going to cost more than i could buy a good used one for,im just guessing on this one ,but that's usually what causes it to do that, that or a bad connection on the antenna will also cause it not to hold a station for a long period of time, check the antenna wire before you replace it,it may just be loose, also make sure the search button hasn't been turned on,this will cause it to do a constant search ,good luck on it.

2000 honda accord turbo?

i would like to know how reliable my engine will be. I want to turbo it. I dnt know what engine type it is. I do know the motor is stock and its a 2000 honda accord sedan ex 4cyl. I just want to know what engine i have and if itll handle the turbo. I dnt wanna hear if its a dumb idea. Please help asap
2000 honda accord turbo?
Mccain for president!
2000 honda accord turbo?
if its automatic no point in turbo, an auto tranny cant handle that much boost or pressure, o and ya dude your car is a family car not a car made to be fast..
Reply:it'll handle low boost applications like sub 4psi. Just buy the biggest fattest turbo you can find and run as much boost as you want. That way you'll have to build an engine that will handle it very shortly afterwards.
Reply:I don't think it's a good idea. The engine internals are not made to handle that kind of added stress and neither is the tranny or the rest of the drive train. Many things need to be beefed up to handle it. I guess if money is no object, you could go ahead and do it. This question is probably better asked on some Honda forum though.
Reply:as said before...if its auto trans...dont bother..the trans is not made for that kinda power increase.

if you were to go with low boost ( 8 psi max) you could propably pull it off.

just for safe measures i would throw a head spacer on it to lower your compression ratio..plus you could then run 10 psi no problem.

ive seen hondas handle crazy boost...it just all depends on how well the person ran their setup

run and intercooler for sure..fuel injectors that will handle the demands off the increased air..a fpr..wideband 02 sensor and gauge..a decent wastegate and if your gonna use a blow off valve instead of a diverter valve make sure its atleast a duel spring so it doesnt leak

as long as you dont run lean..or run too much boost youll be fine!
Reply:If you are going to add turbo to any engine to any automobile. Be prepared to find out if the turbo is Legal in your State!!! You must have it checked by a ref and see if it will pass smog. Otherwise you are wasting your time installing a turbo if it is not allowed. If you can find a friend who can smog it illegally then do as you wish.

How many points you get for hitting a parked honda civic without car insurance on vine street?
If you are involved into a car accident. Both parties must report the accident to the dmv. Even if it is not your fault or both parties do not have insurance!!! When you get new insurance or renewal it will show up as a point. Then the insurance company will charge you more on your bill.
Reply:well that is considered a hit and run so keep on running and dont get caught
Reply:First of all it is illegal to drive a car without insurance. It will all come out of your pocket. It depend what type ticket you got. And it is a moving one. Then it is called hit and run. And I would not be worrying about points. Your license will be gone. You may be looking at jail time as well.

The best thing you can do is turn your self in. They will go easier on you. Chances are you left paint from your car. It can be traced back to the year of the car. So they have the color and year. The Oldsmobile is probably the better car because it is faster and bigger so it is more practical. And it looks better. But reliability is only average and gas mileage is around 28mpg highway.

96 eclipse clutch problem?

i Own a 96 mitsibishi eclipse spyder-gs as of 2 weeks now and out of no where when i go to start my car in the morning i cant enter any gears.... i can only be in neutral...even when applying decent pressure the stick will not engage and when i slightly move the stick down to reverse the gears grind immidiately...so basically the car cannot move... i figure first thing to check would be the transmission fluid but its not labeled...can anyone give me a decent description of where i put in the transmission fluid and what type i need? thank you
96 eclipse clutch problem?
You need a new clutch release bearing. But since you need to remove the transmission to do that is a good idea to replace the clutch too.
96 eclipse clutch problem?
More likely your clutch is worn out, or possible the hydraulic system has leaked enough fluid to cause the pressure plate to not disengage completely, If the clutch is dragging it will grind in reverse. Try this set parking brake or move vehicle to an area where you can drive away without hitting anything. Place the vehicle in gear push clutch in and start the vehicle, if it starts and seems to want to creep forward, the clutch is not disengaging completely due to one of the reasons listed above. If the release bearing were worn or bad you would notice a bearing type noise or howl, with the clutch pedal depressed, then the noise would noticeably reduce when you released the clutch pedal. You would likely have a loose condition at the disengaged position . Most times a release bearing will get noisy before it fails completely.

The hydraulic master cylinder is at the drivers side firewall, and looks like a mini brake master cylinder with only one reservoir, it uses brake hydraulic fluid.

I don't think the lube oil is your problem, but there should be a fill plug about half way up on the front side of the case, may have the word "fill" near it. With the vehicle on a level surface when the plug is removed the oil should be just at the bottom of the opening, a little may dribble out, you can use a small piece of wire to act as a dipstick if you think it is low.

I need to replese engine Of Jeep Wrangler?

Jeep '88, looking for a simple swap for a V8,

What would be the best engine ?

What cars are the best donors?

do i have to change the transmission?
I need to replese engine Of Jeep Wrangler?
There have been a lot of Chevy 350 dropped in jeeps, Nothing is simple, it is just how much dose it cost and can you afford it. Look up some four wheel sites, and see how they have done it. I have see story's in 4 wheel magazine about this
I need to replese engine Of Jeep Wrangler?
A v8 will take some custom work and you will have to change the transmission. You can make most any small block V8 work. Some of the will depend on what you find. Believe it or not a Chrysler small block 318, 340, or 360 will probably be the cheapest but a small block Chevy, especially a 350 will be right there. If you find an old AMC 304 and all the stuff, that would be most ideal in my opinion (because that's what the CJ's used if no other reason) but that will probably be hard to find and more expensive. A Ford motor will definitely be expensive.

Vw driver door not locking or unlocking but can lock the system from inside?

I think you mean you can't press down the lock button when the door is open? Can you lock/unlock the door from the outside with a key but can press down the lock button from inside once door is closed? If so, that is the way the VW driver doors and locks are designed.
Vw driver door not locking or unlocking but can lock the system from inside?
It sounds as if the connecting rod between the door lock and the door latch assembly is broken. You have a seperate rod inside from the push button to the lock mechanisim, and if this is working but you cant lock or unlock from outside theres nothing else it could be.
Vw driver door not locking or unlocking but can lock the system from inside?
I have a 95' Jetta I had the same issue I could lock and unlock from the inside and not from the outside with my keys. If you have a 93-98 VW then most likely like the person above me said it is the connecting rod from the cylinder to the latch. I had to replace both of mine on the drivers side and passenger. The old ones are made of a soft metal that literally breaks. The make the newer kits at Volkswagen that you have to order from the dealership and have installed. I went to a local VW shop i know they charged me about $125 to replace both sides and that included the labor very good price and working fine now.

Will a 92 acura integra ls under-dash wiring harness in a 90 crx si with a OBD1 b16?

ive got a 90 crx si with a b16. the problem is the original under-dash harnes is butchered bad. i have no fire or fuel, but i have a 92 integra ls shell with the harness still intact. will that work in place of my stock harness.
Will a 92 acura integra ls under-dash wiring harness in a 90 crx si with a OBD1 b16?
You cannot use a stock harness with a b16 upgrade engine. The stock harness only applies to the original engine 1.6 liter. You must order the b16 harness and replace the whole thing.
Will a 92 acura integra ls under-dash wiring harness in a 90 crx si with a OBD1 b16?
yea then you will need a obd1 ecu and then rewire the vtec or you can just get a civic ex or si or vx 92-95 civic. but to run it will run lots of slicing and dicing
Reply:Whats up man, first i just wanna say I just got done putting a b16 a1 dohc first gen vtec engine into my 90 ls integra, and the wiring harness was pretty much all the same, b series is almost always b series.. sure some of the engine plugs are in a differant spot then the b18 but everything should work, Im pretty sure you engine is obd0, the way you can tell is if you look at your ecu and the plugs going into the ecu are that faded kinda clear yellow color and black then it's obd0 and if there grey then it's obd1, ok so once you get the vtec in, you dont need to get the obd1 ecu unless your wires are grey, or unless you want to convert your car to obd1 you can use a pr3 obd0 vtec ecu you can find them on ebay for 50 to however much your willing to spend, does your b16 have a distributor? you will need a b16 distrib,

Also can you look on you crx and by the map censor there should be a little black thing with hoses that go to your fuel manifold, then under your hood it should have a sticker that say's what it is, is it the regulator control solenoid valve or the purge cut solenoid valve, you can hit me up at born2bask8ter@yahoo.com

What is the mpg for a 1970 vw bug?

I am restoring one and i got 17 mpg but i think that the carborator needs adjustment what should be the mpg
What is the mpg for a 1970 vw bug?
It depends what engine it has. (In 38 years, a lot of stuff can be done to a car) But expect mid-20s to low-30s.
What is the mpg for a 1970 vw bug?
17 mpg is a little low for a stock 1600, expect 20-22 up to 25 if it is perfect, i dont know where the other guy got his numbers, but you will Never see 30 MPG from a carburetted vw

try and lean out the carb a little, but don't over do it, timing can also play a huge role in your mpg's

try timing by vacuum.
Reply:17 is low unless your engine is not stock. if its a 1500 cc stock mpg should be 23-24. stock 1600 single port is 21-24. stock 1600 cc dual port should be 24-27. it only takes a small change, such as aftermarket exhaust, to lower the mpg this much. check your timing also, may cause 2 mpg difference.

Gas Is 4 Bucks A Gallon ... You Need A New Car ... What Car Would YOU Buy?

Hey ... I need some advice!

My lease (2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee) is up next month (Sayonara, oh ye Royal Gas Hog) ... and I don't know what to look at!

I want something that is reasonable to buy/lease and own ... and looks great. I don't need a ton of bells and whistles. I really just want a good, solid car that can get me around comfortably.

With gas prices sky-high, obviously good mileage is a top consideration, but since I have nothing to trade in, I need something affordable to buy.

In my situation, what car make/model would YOU be leaning toward? And please tell me WHY you would pick that car!

Thanks, everyone ... I need all the help I can get!
Gas Is 4 Bucks A Gallon ... You Need A New Car ... What Car Would YOU Buy?
If you're concerned about fuel economy you may consider getting a hybrid car - not quite sure what models are available in the US (I live in Australia) but the two options here are the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid. I'd lean towards the Honda Civic Hybrid since (a) it's cheaper, at least over here and (b) it looks nicer.

If you're not interested in getting a hybrid, consider getting a compact/small-medium car such as the Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus (again these might have different names in the US).

Then again, there isn't as much a stigma over here in Oz when buying a Japanese car, not sure what the case is in the U.S. though :).
Gas Is 4 Bucks A Gallon ... You Need A New Car ... What Car Would YOU Buy?
if you got the big bucks to spend in the beginning the Hybrid Civic gets 50+ mpg...
Reply:If you really want to save gas Prius is your choice. Obviously its what it is a hybrid. You want something that has a little bit more power but saves gas also look into a Nissan Sentra. They have pretty good gas millage. I always have liked nissan and my dad also owns a sentra a 04 to be exact. It gets him by and he saves way more gas than i do with a v6 maxima. Also you can look into Honda Civic. Its quick and yet they also save gas. If your planing on a b routes and here and there drive get anything that's a v4. If you need to haul some things lean towards a bigger engine than a 1.8. My choice honestly would be the Nissan. Look into the websites so you also can read the specs that might be more for you. Good Luck with a new/used/leased car!
Reply:Mazda 3 ......

Deal going on now 117 per month

but pay your TT%26amp;Lic to get that price or better.

Dodge has the 2.99 locked in fuel price. But you need the Lifetime Warranty to go with it if you get one.

Test drive a few cars before you decide... Check the local Sunday papers VS the Bigger Citys Dealers for what specials they have. Save some cash for sure.

Those are the best deals...

Also if you don't travel in a BIG City evey day A Hybrid car will not get you the mileage your looking for.
Reply:I would suggest staying away from the hybrids for now. Will the gas you save make up for the expensive batteries you will have to replace down the road? Hybrid technology is new and expensive and isn't entirely justified in the expenses department. I would say your best bet would be in the Honda Civic category. The Toyota Corolla is also a good gas saver and extremely reliable. If your just looking to lease then you could go with the VW Jetta if you like their style, but they aren't as reliable. Mazda 3, Ford Focus or Mini Cooper to name a few more.
Reply:Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Hyundai Tiburon

Mazda 3-Best handling small sedan. Great on gas and quick. Very reliable. Most standard features.

Honda Civic-Most reliable small car in the world. Also looks great and fun to drive. It has a high revving engine.

Hyundai Tiburon-It looks great and handles great. It is cheap, but looks like a $30,000 car.
Reply:Ford Escape Hybrid. Smaller than the Suv you have allready, but close.
Reply:The toyota is a very economical car. It will get almost 50 miles per gallon on the highway and not too bad in the city. I am driving a Ford, Freestar van and it is not too bad on gas, either. But, make sure you keep the air filters cleaned and the air at the same level in the tires. It plays a major role in your gas mileage. Stick to a 4 or 6 cylinder and you will be okay. It depends on the way you drive, also, Look for a car/truck with cruise control, it also saves gas.
Reply:I really haven't checked out the new stuff lately, but i would probably go look at some hybrids. They are getting better.

What is MYxx in Honda Vehicle Model?

With Honda vehicles, sometimes I seen they are being listed with a number ie. MY05 or MY06. Can anyone please explain what it stands for and the meaning please?
What is MYxx in Honda Vehicle Model?
yo thats a new one for me too brah, but i belive it stands for

MODEL YEAR XX

like OBD 1 or OBD 2

its just the model years 05 and 06
What is MYxx in Honda Vehicle Model?
Just to add my 2 bobs worth,

Model Year is exatly that - the year that model was intended for.

Sometimes, the actual build date is different from model year (some manufactures will start building MY09 vehicles towards the end of 2008 (to allow for shipping/importing delays).

Could a Cummins 5.9 engine fit in an M-body Chrysler?

I have a 1988 Plymouth Gran Fury with the 318 police pkg. engine, %26amp; I would love to have a Diesel in it. The only good engine I've heard of that might is the 5.9 I6 Cummins, as it was/is used in many Dodge pickups. Are the engine mounts the same or would they have to be fabricared??
Could a Cummins 5.9 engine fit in an M-body Chrysler?
your talking about a hell of alota work and fabrication to do any thing like that and plus you probably dont want it a diesel if you look at it with a wider view
Could a Cummins 5.9 engine fit in an M-body Chrysler?
The Cummins is a great engine, but it weighs more than twice what a small block Mopar does. I don't think it would fit, but even if it is possible, the cost and weight would make this an unpleasant combination. You'd still need to fabricate the engine mounts, have some serious electronics expertise to get the ECU to work, and spend a fortune, but the Mercedes diesel out of an early Sprinter van would probably make for a better driving and more efficient swap. The 4 cyllinder out of a Jeep Liberty diesel would also be a better fit, if you can find one. Good luck. Whatever way you go, a diesel Gran Fury would be an interesting creation. It will be a hell of a project though, by the time you get the electronics and fuel system sorted out.

I have a supra i had my friend to the work on my last car?

i want to make my supra faster more horsepower ect. what do i need to get i want something like a twin turbo i have a body kit rims and all that stuff
I have a supra i had my friend to the work on my last car?

na engine modding will differ in parrts from the twin turbo version.

basic mods will be an

induction kit

decat/catback exhaust

iridium plugs

clean injectors

decent oil change

change fuel filter to a new one

lighten flywheel

lighten car weight

other mods including turbo mods are

piggy back ecu

remap ecu

Chevy 350 back-firing?

This is a Mercruiser 350 Magnum (Chevy smallblock). 1996 with a Carter carb, about 350 hours use. I had the carb professionally rebuilt because it was very difficult to start cold, and after running with a load it would diesel after being shut off. After the carb installation, this thing ran like a champ. After the first 30 minutes I would get the occasional (10-20 seconds apart) backfire through the carb. This seems to only occur after running under load for at least a few minutes. It runs great and strong between backfires. I have not checked the timing yet, but I have never, ever had it backfire before. I have adjusted the idle jets so that I don't get any dieseling. Could a different carb setting reveal a bad timing setting? Is the float level wrong? What about adjustments on Carter carbs? I have not fooled with wiring, plugwires, distributor etc. so that can be ruled out. You guys who eat, breathe and live chevy...help!
Chevy 350 back-firing?
the needle might be sticking
Chevy 350 back-firing?
did the carter come with the motor and just develope the problem? have you tuned the carb? if not tune it, especially after a rebuild. check your timing. if niether of those help try swapping carbs to a different brand. it seems like you may be on the right track by looking at the carb.
Reply:I own a shop, and think this; The dieseling is caused by the idle speed being too high, and in some cases; the carb may have a solenoid that allows the carb to completely shut off when powerd down. The mixture screws should be adjusted with the use of a vacuum gage attached to the intake vacuum. Adjust them for the most vacuum while keeping the idle down to around 850 rpm's. Turn the mixture screws all the way in till they bottom out, but don't bottom them out hard, or it will damage them. Back them out 2 and 1/2 turns, attach the vacuum gage, and with the engine at normal temp, turn the screws one at at time (in) till the vacuum starts to fall, and back it out till it clears up. Keep going until the vacuum begins to fall again, and then go in with the screw till it reads the best vacuum reading you can get. You are trying to get the best vacuum reading on both screws at idle speed. The 2 and 1/2 turns is your starting place to begin with.

As for the backfire; It may have the vacuum line going to the distributor hooked to the wrong outlet on the carburetor. It must be hooked to ported vacuum. Meaning: No vacuum is on the line until the throttle is mashed. If it has vacuum on it all the time; it will backfire once in a while as its throwing the ignition timing off at cruise speed. A bad vacuum advance chamber on the distributor can cause this symptom too, so check to make sure its moving the advance plate, and it holds vacuum without leaking down. Remove the spark plugs, and if they are black with build-up from too much fuel, you will need to remove the upper portion of the carburetor, and adjust the float down about 1/8 of an inch. Keep in mind; your old carburetor may have fouled the plugs. A backfire can take place if you have a bad plug, and when it gets under a load, the backfire shows up. Clean the plugs good, and set the gap. If it keeps doing it; then replace the plugs with new ones. If this doesn't take it away, then start looking for some problem with the cam being worn down, or a lifter may have a tiny hole in it causing this problem. A good vacuum gage can tell you a lot about the health of the engine, and is a fine tunning tool to own. Also; if the ignition timing is out of adjustment; it can cause this problem.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Do mercedes last a long time?

i found an 89 mercedes benz 300E, i believe it was.... it was 2,000$ and i dont know too much about cars, do you think that would be a good deal? ive heard cars like that can last forever.
Do mercedes last a long time?
Trust me, U DONT WANT THAT CAR!!!

couple reasons why:

1. real simple, its a very old car with who knows how many miles, it doesnt say so obviously it has quite a few miles on it, real potential for problems down the road

2. its a german car, regardless of how good/ maintained it was it will have problems and german cars like mercs and bmw and very expensive to repair, especially the older ones.

3. since it is old with probably lot of miles it will consume more gas than usual, upkeep will be expensive.

those are the real important reasons, thing is with an older car u never know what problems it can have, but with mercedes they're just too damn expensive to get repaired, if u do plan on getting it make sure u have a trustworth mechanic inspect it first.

good luck :)
Do mercedes last a long time?
if its dependability you want, get a Honda, or a Toyota. despite Mercedes being German engineering at its best, it will be costly to repair. I've worked on enough of these to say with confidence that I'm glad Ford hasn't pulled anything like Benz did. the money that you would put in just to keep it running will be at least double of what you paid to buy it in the first place. but if you choose to do so, try your best to NOT bring it in a dealership. find someone that specializes in German vehicles ( since alot of repairs are done the same way with most European vehicles). best of luck.
Reply:While it certainly looks to be in great shape for a nearly 20 year old car, keep in mind that it is a nearly 20 year old car. The ad also does not list the mileage on the vehicle.

Mercedes cars of that vintage were very well built and do last a long time. The W124 chassis ( internal code for the 86-95 E-Class vehicles ) are quite solid, reliable when maintained properly and were advanced vehicles for their time...how many other vehicles had an airbag in the mid to late '80's for example? ).

Having said that, maintenance is key in keeping any 20 year old vehicle running properly. If you do wish to buy that car, take it to a mechanic or shop familiar with Mercedes to look over it thoroughly to make sure it has been maintained properly. If it hasn't, you will likely be spending a lot of money in the near future.
Reply:The 300E was a long life car, but when they get older there are a lot of expensive items that can possibly go out if the car was not taken care of. Motor Parts and transmission parts are a killer. Basic items such as brakes, filters and other components are not so bad. Air conditioning repair on those are costly. Compressors are very expensive and blower motor replacement can be quite high. Just be prepared if something should go out on it.
Reply:Yes - Mercedes do last a long time, despite what people say.

The 89 300E is one of the best in the lineage of this brand. The condition of this car looks good and I am sure she will serve you well in the years to come. The price also looks good and I am sure she is worth every cent of it. Further, contrary to what people say, the routine maintenance and spares are also very reasonable. They require very little care as compared to the service they give. This particular car you have chosen is owned by a dear friend of mine. The car is driven excessively hard and under severe conditions. Never once has the owner been let down. I have consistently owned this brand since the last 40 years and one of my prized possessions is my 86 300SE, which is still in pristine condition and does not want any undue money to maintain

and run.

I wish you all the best, and can personally assure you that you have made a wise choice.
Reply:It looks like good condition, but trust me, you dont want this.

It has too many miles..I wouldnt buy a honda this old...

Also, mercedes are reliable up till about 150k miles....and thats the old ones....everything in the DiamlerChrysler era was poorly made....things have gotten better after 2005...

bottom line...bad idea...look for a used honda or toyota
Reply:of corse
Reply:Buying a 1983 Mercedes diesel was the best thing that happened to our family. She's dependable burns wvo or any oils(I installed conversion).Diesels up to 1985 will last over 1 million miles, gassers 400,000 with timing chains replaced every 200,000 miles.

New GM RWD Cars?

Why is it that I can't buy a RWD 4 door sedan from GM. Are they stupid, Dodge has rwd sedans, and so does ford. I used to be a die hard chevy fan but switched to dodge simply because their sedans are rear wheel drive. I will never drive a front wheel drive crapbox. Same with their chevy colorado, I had a nice 4.3 s10 a while back, but refuse to get the colorado because it doesn't have the 4.3 v6, but a lame 5 cyl. Whats wrong with GM?? Anyone know?? No wonder they are not number 1 anymore!!
New GM RWD Cars?
most people want front wheel drive vehicals and if you do your research before you go popping off you will relized that the chevy five cyl. is a very reliable motor and very fuel effective so that will solve that and the 4.3 had bad cam problems and always got bad knocks...... the only reason you need a rear wheel drive car is so you can do stupid **** to make your self feel good so drive like a normal person and dont be dumb
New GM RWD Cars?
The fact that Dodge has rear wheel drive is the reason I would not buy one. It is that much more that can go wrong and takes a log of passenger comfort space with the hump. Front wheel drive was one of the smartest things makers ever did. The real problem with them is most pople do not know how to drive them correctly. When properly trainedm they will out perform any rear drive ever built. Took a pweson with knowledge to get me started and have spent several years learning. Have better control and handling that ever did with rear drive. Add the stability control and cannot be beat for emergency handling and driving in inclimate weather.
Reply:GM is still the number one car and truck maker on the planet. From what you have said you like another car maker over GM.There is nothing we can do for your here in the chevrolet section.Best of luck.
Reply:for the colorado: when compared to the ford ranger the colorado has more torque and power than the ford rangers v6, while also using less gas(even though its ugly)....gm is just now starting to put out great rwd cars like the new cts, and the pontiac g8(although it is a 5 year old car). dodge has no style, the charger is fugly with horrible handling, and the 300c looks like a mafia limo tank with horrible interiors and tranny's(the charger,300c, and new challenger use the same interior), at least gm has style. look at the new buick enclave, new cts, new malibu, new cadillac ext, new saturn sky's/solstice, new avalanche, new corvette z06, new yukon denali, new camaro....
Reply:I couldn't agree more, I will never drive a front wheel drive car, ever again. Drove one for a year and absolutly hated it, they have no torque and drive like crap. Dodge is turning around, they actually make cars that people want unlike GM putting out these cheap front wheel drive cars. FWD=CHEAP!! I also drive a old 93 s10 with a 4.3 and it has great torque and handling and sounds great with flowmasters, while the colorado sounds like a fart can.

97 Ford Escort AC Inop?

I have a 97 escort wagon. The ac sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. I checked the pressure at the low side port and it was over 100 with the gauge that came with the R134a kit I got from AAP. I have read that if its over 100 that you cant add anymore refrigerant. What else should I be looking for ? When I turn the ac unit on in the car, the radiator fan automatically turns on but I dont hear the ac compressor engaging.
97 Ford Escort AC Inop?
Find clutch connector near compressor, and disconnect. Run a jumper wire from clutch to battery positive terminal, start engine. If compressor will not run, clutch on compressor is bad. If it runs, stop engine and re-connect factory wires. Find low pressure switch near low side port, resembles an oil pressure switch.

Disconnect wires to low pressure switch and jumper across wiring terminals for switch. This should make compressor run if AC is on inside car and engine is running. check pressures with compressor running. Suspect low refrigerant or bad electrical connection,or bad low pressure switch.
97 Ford Escort AC Inop?
find the low pressure switch on the receiver drier and disconnect. ck for power at the switch with the a/c on and the engine running. if there is power there jump across the connector and check for power at the compressor. if there is no power you have an open circuit in the poss wire to the compressor. if there is power and the compressor still is not on, ck and make sure the ground is good buy ohms testing it with a dovm. if it is good then the compressor clutch has failed. you can replace the compressor clutch without replacing the compressor. if everything works fine when jumpering across the low pressure switch get a low pressure swtich and replace it. there is one other thing that could cause this problem. the a/c or wide open throttle cutout relay may be failing to open back up after a hard acceleration.

What is your experience with your 07-08 hyundai santa fe suv?

the first generation of the santa fe name was the first launch at growingly popular small suv segment for newbie hyundai. the new ones are pretty impressive and enticing at the same time. for those of you who are driving one of the 07-08 gen santa fes, what is your overall experience with it? pleasant? horrible? plz be as detailed as you can be, the more the better. how is its reliability so far? ive only seen "average" from Consumer Reports but have you detected any major problems with yours so far into your ownership? are there any minor gripes you have about it? where was yours built (in Korea or in the USA?)? if yours happens to be an all-wheel-drive, has it worked as advertised for you in the winter? lastly, what sort of all-wheel-drive system is it that the santa fe utilizes (full-time fully automatic, manual lock-up torque converter?)? does it come with a lockable limited-slip differential [system] (electronic, speed-sensitive viscous, or torque-sensitive clutch pack coupling?)?
What is your experience with your 07-08 hyundai santa fe suv?
well first of all ihope you know hyundai cars are very good cars.the santa fe has been awarded for its safety and great customer satisfaction, i havent really xperienced much of the car but so far ,friends i know said the car is great has good handling ,its silent(which makes me wonder why som people say it makes noise) i think no matter what it wouldnt disappoint you.

Question e85 ethonal would it work in a Honda Accord 2003 or bad idea?

I know that regular unleaded gas is the only gas that is to be used in a Honda so my question truly is would it mess the engine up or harm it?
Question e85 ethonal would it work in a Honda Accord 2003 or bad idea?
If your honda is NOT labeled FLEX FUEL - you cannot use E85.

There's 2 facts you should know about E85

(1) E85 is 85% alcohol. Alcohol is corrosive to your regular gas tank and gas line

(2) Alcohol has only 2/3 the energy content. What that means is you only get 2/3 the mileage as compare to gasoline. So if your car used to get 30 MPG on gasoline, you would only get about 20 MPG on E85. Not any cheaper.

Good Luck...
Question e85 ethonal would it work in a Honda Accord 2003 or bad idea?
Yes, it would mess up the engine quite badly. E85 is quite corrosive, and would destroy many vital engine components in a car not built for it.

2000grand jeep cherokee transmission?
I had somthing similar happen to my wifes not long ago, Does it feel sluggish off the start and just plain boggy? Anyways, there are a couple of sensors in the tranny, a speed gov. soliniod and I cant remember the second, but I replaced those and everything worked fine again. Its a simple drop pan repair, remove the filter and the sensors are in plain site and very accessable, took a mechanic friend of mine (who is a GMC tech, Not Jeep) an hour to do it and that was slow becuase he was being very cautious to not wreck anything. Cost me About 350 for parts including new transmission service kit (seal, filter, oil) and the sensors themselves.

What Honda is the best 2 fix up?

I'm looking 2 get a Honda 2 race and I wanna know what would be the best one 2 do that with?
What Honda is the best 2 fix up?
mine is a 1990 honda accord and I can honetsly say it is the best even with 300,000 miles on her she still runns like a champ and has been awsome to fix, so I say a 1990 honda accord or any accord after 1989
What Honda is the best 2 fix up?
The best honda is the 1995-1997 Honda Del Sol VTECH, they are fairly rare, so they hold their value, and they look sweet. They also have a removable roof. They get really good gas mileage, and the VTECH has 160hp, which pushes the car along pretty good since it's a very light car. In the 1995-1997 models they added more options and worked out a lot of the bugs. It's a very reliable car too, just like all the other hondas. They also make a lot of aftermarket parts for it, and it's based off of the civic frame, so you can get parts from a civic, or swap the motor for a GSR motor.
Reply:if you dont know already then there is no need for you to even get into fixng cars. if you wanna learn, find a crew that was around before the fast and furious movie. they are the real ones. and F a accord. ill tell you ok, if you want lightness and speed then use a 93-95 hatchback, and if ur a small guy hell even a crx will do, but u hve to learn , do ur research on what motor to put in, if u do this correctly its going to be expensive hobby, for every upgrade you make , something will break, just so you know, but thats a good thing. that means your getting faster . now go learn about importin from the original crews, not the posers. a poser id the one who has rims a wing and a intake , basically just looksand thinks they are fast. good luck
Reply:will civic are nice but they are slow crx are small but they ugly accords are ok but i hate the way they look man I got a civic and i love it to death man the body kit i got bad *** tail light head light go with the civic and buy parts for it mine its nice
Reply:1988-1991 honda crx si, light quick two seater, years of technical write ups, already fuel injected, make almost any mount combination to put any other motor in, even the k20 and the h22. slightly more difficult engine bay than the 92-95 and 96-00 civic's but with the light weight you can keep a great power to weight ratio. plus you can pick one up for under 2k in good condition. they even make roll cages, lexan windows, carbon fiber hatch, and sunroof insert. keep it light with good power and torque. crx is the way to go.

the accord is a pain, and the del sol can be pricey, and is also a heavy car. but it all goes to preference, what is suitable to the eye as well as a good performer.

a 92-95 hatch would also be a good car to modify especially a vx or cx model. as long as you were planning an engine swap.
Reply:Oh the answer. Well the 1990-1993 Accord 5-speed is a good base if you want a sedan H22/23 motors swap right in no need for mounts you can use your stock F-serious tranny. For info on that look into cb7tuner.com

Mainly people pick 1988-1991 CRX's or 1988-2000 Civics, for road race or even lets say 1/4 racing the Del Sol dont have the chassis strength as the other cars do due to well the Targa top. If you chose to race first set goals and budget lets be honest none of use are ever going to need or driver a 8,9,10 second car on the streets or as daily. Many people stop at the low 13's high 12's mark. Ok my choice for all around daily driver and racing is the 92-95 Civic Hatchback 5-speed either VX or CX, there the lightest so is the DX and then the heavy weight Si SOHC Vtec, these motors(DX,CX,VX) need to be swap, so there is where another question comes in how much you have to spend and what are your 1/4 goals, a motor can be built and bought as little as $2000+

honda-tech.com is a good research site
