Iam thinking about purchasing a 2002 mersedes S500 for $17,000 with 64,000 miles. My concern is like anyone elses concern. How reliable are they, at 64,000 miles. Compare to a lets say a 2002 toyota echo with same amount of miles, becouse thats what i owned a year ago.
How reliable is the S500?
Not very reliable. Let's just say that you may be able to afford the $17,000 sticker price, but how are you going to afford the 17MPG (premium fuel) cost. This will cost you $115 per tank and you will get the same mileage as your echo. The other part is regular maintainence. Oil change $75, tires $300 a piece, exhaust $800. Your warranty is done, so you will have to pay for any malfunctions as well. My friend had a problem with his door ($1500), moon roof leaked ($1200 - new gasket).
Save yourself the headache and the "I made a huge mistake" comments and avoid something you really can't afford. Get a 2007 Honda Civic and keep the money drizzle down to a minimum.
