What would cause a '91 honda civic dx to burn white smoke from the exaust&or what seems like under the engine?

It only releases the smoke when I throttle (give it gas). Also, the engine sounds alot "deeper/slower", not the pep that it used to have before this began to happen.

Head gasket is leaking coolant into the engine.

This is usually caused by water or coolant in your oil. You should have your car looked at by a mechanic
Reply:Your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventalation) Valve may be leaking . Or it could be the hose going between it and the air intake manifold.

With it smoking when the pedal is increased may be a sign of worn piston rings or worn valve seals.

The combustion chamber maybe leaking some of it's explosed gas/vapor, into the crank case (oil cavities/chambers)

Does it have high mileage?

With a leaking PCV , it acts like a vacuum leak.

Normally the white smog is recycled back in to the intake by vacuum , to be re-burned off and sent through the muffler.

Any leaks behind the mass air flow sensor is un-registered air (to the Computer) going to the cylinders.

This leak has a leaning effect (added heat) to the combustion chamber/mixtures.

Simple fix : PCV @$10 (quailty....Don't by the cheap $3 ones) , Valve cover grommit @$3 , And a rubber hose @ $1.25 a foot'.

Pull them off the engine (simple), and take them to the counter at the parts store.
