Why would a spark plug wire head shock me?

I have a 98 ford escort and I touched the spark plug wire head by accident while the car was running and it shocked me. Does that mean that they are arching?
Why would a spark plug wire head shock me?
It simply means that the wires are getting old and losing the insulation value. Time to replace the set of wires before they start arcing.

it means that the spark plug wires need to be replaced. they are arcing through. the easiest way to find out if they are arcing without touching them is while the engine is running put soap and water in a spray bottle and spray them while the engine is running. you will get a noticeable miss from the engine when you do this if the spark plug wires are arcing.
Reply:It must have a crack in the insulation, that's one way to test them...
Reply:Like most have said, they are getting old and starting to arc. Park the car in a dark place, outside with no other lights, open the hood and start it up. In the dark you can see just how bad they are. If they real bad you should see a really cool light show.
Reply:cut in the wire, insulation worn out
