Big red One.?

I sometime borrow my buddy's Porsche 911 to keep my driving skills honed. When driving down #1 Highway at 110-120 MPH in sixth gear I keep seeing this red glow in the rear view mirror. I've tried adjusting the mirror using the day/night lever but the only way that I get get it to stop is to drop back into fifth gear and accelerate to 145-160 MPH. This causes the red glow to fade away and eventually it stops altogether. What is causing this?
Big red One.?
i know quite a lot about cars but never heard of anything like this maybe you should tell your mate and get him to take it to the garage.

but i doubt it is anything serious
Big red One.?
whoa, something is getting hottt!
Reply:Let's see... what are you really asking here? Supposedly it's about a strange glow; a technical issue. Yet, it's not your car and it's something the car's owner could probably answer. Further, you provide no actual details on the car ("Porsche 911" covers cars produced for more than 45 years, with multiples models being produced in each of those years).

If not that then, what are you asking... the details you decide to provide aren't about the red glow, but rather trying to tell everyone what an amazing driver you are. You go out on one of the most known twisty bits of road in the country and slice it up at triples digits in your friend's 911 and really wind it up until something around the engine is glowing red hot! OOOOOooo, ahhhh, yes, I am sure all that read it are so impressed.

If you really want to hone your driving skills, go to the track. Of course you will face the embarrassment of real drivers zipping past (because seriously, there is no possible way you can work on driving skills on any public road... let alone cruising in sixth gear? Come on!), but on the plus side one of them will probably be able to tell you what the glow is, so it's really a win-win situation. Or you could go the easy route and ask the car's owner as it's very likely he or the car's regular mechanic could easily answer this... or if you really REALLY are asking that here, then try providing details about the car and what's going on with it when this happens.
Reply:You don't say what Year and Model you are driving. If it were a Turbocharged Model it brings to mind that it could possibly be the exhaust system getting hot enough to glow red, but I doubt that you could see that in your mirror, and it should have gotten brighter when you sped up to 160 mph. Maybe you need someone to drive next to you to see if it is the exhaust system or your brake light. I bet it is the brake light.
